Reforestation Monségur (40)
The project
The project involves the reforestation of an area of 2.29 ha in the south of the Landes depertment, in the Adour-Chalosse region, with the aim of restoring a dying forest that has been attacked by bark beetles (insect pests).
- Plantation of 4 species (Loblolly Pine, Sessile Oak, Downy Oak, Hornbeam), with the aim of recreating a forest adapted to the site context (soil and climate) with the creation of diversified leafy borders. This mix of species is essentiel for biodiversity and contributes to favourable environment for the beehives installed on one of the project's two blocks.
Department of Landes
Monségur is a commune in the Landes department, on the southern border of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in the "Collines de l'Adour" woodland-ecoregion, an area of plains and hills between the sands of the Landes Massif and the Pyrenean foothills.
This woodland-ecoregion is predominantly agricultural, with only 20% forested. This contrasts with the very high afforestation rate of 60% in the Landes region.
