A project in the heart of the Sarthe

The forest at Saint-Mars d'Outillé suffered a fire in 2019, which destroyed the entire area that now needs to be reforested. Maritime pine and Atlas cedar will be planted as a stand-by-stand mixture.

Downy oak will also be planted as a leafy border along the road, to limit the risk of fire outbreaks and create habitats favourable to biodiversity.

The species selected are adapted to the sandy, acidic soil, and can withstand a certain water deficit, which is becoming increasingly frequent with climate change.

Editions Auzou, with Up2Ggreen Reforestation

Les Editions Auzou, together with Up2Green Roforestation, have contributed to the planting of 4,551 trees ont the Saint-Mars d'Outillé project.

This planting will absorb 705 tonnes of CO2 once the audit has been completed.

GreenYellow

GreenYellow has contributed to the planting of 6,455 trees at the Saint-Mars d'Outillé Project.

This planting will absorb 1,000 tonnes of CO2 once the audit has been completed.

Aergon

Aergon has contributed to the planting of 129 trees in the Saint-Mars d'Outillé project.

This planting will absorb 20 tonnes of CO2 once the audit has been completed.

Bouygues group

Bouygues Group has contributed to the planting of 1,407 trees at the Saint-Mars d'Outillé project.

This planting will absorb 218 tonnes of CO2 once the audit has been completed.

EDF

EDF has contributed to the reforestation project at the Saint-Mars d'Outillé.

This planting will absorb 685 tonnes of CO2 once the audit has been completed.

Diversity of species

The diversity of tree species in the forest makes it possible to combine more types of habitat and food for biodiversity. It also makes the forest more resilient to parasitic attacks, which are sometimes specific to certain species.

Restoring a degrading forest

The forest has suffered a fire a caused by man. To prevent this from happening again, the plan is to diversify the planting and preserve the edges of the forest along the road. The deciduous borders of Downy oak will form a barrier against any fire starting from the road.

Ecological continuity

If the various natural environments are to be accessible and connected by species, they must be as unfragmented as possible. The continuity of the same type of natural area, such as a forest, will encourage the movement of species over a larger surface area.

A positive impact on society and the economy

The forestry sector encompasses a wide range of occupations that cannot be relocated: forestry experts and managers, tree nurseries, forestry work companies (lumberjacks and loggers). The wood processing industry in France also encompasses a wide range of trades right through to the manufacture of the finished product.
