Special features of project

Low Carbon label
A low Carbon Label project

The project is certified Low Carbon: contributors can finance the project and benefit from Carbon Emission Reductions.

A biodiversity project

We are planting a wide variety of species on this project, to encourage biodiversity and forest resilience.

We are maintaining the trees and shrubs on the edges of the plots for 2 reasons

  • as habitats and food resources for certain species.
  • transition between the pasture landscape and the new plantation
Mayenne landscape
Operational project

Timetable for completion

  • Start of planting work: autumn - winter 2021
  • Plantation maintenance : 5 years after planting
  • Audit by a third-party auditor: final verification of Carbon Emission Reductions (tonnes CO2)

Involvement of primary school pupils

An educational plantation

For the planting in November 2021, we involved pupils from a primary school close to the project:

  • A presentation of the Project was given in class
  • The pupils went to the plot to plant the trees themselves !
  • Each budding planter received a small tree to plant

Forest health in France

Forestry and climate issues

Climate-related decline

In recent years, high temperatures combined with poorly distributed rainfall and a lack of water have led to droughts, with a major impact on tree growth and life.

Violent weather events

Very occasionally violent winds and storms cause a great deal of damage in several regions of  France. Solid precipitation, such as hail, snow and late frost, causes damage or limits tree growth or flowering.

Fires

With the regular droughts, the forests are drying out and the potential for fires is increasing, even in regions where there were previously few fires.

Diseases and insect pests

With forests more fragile and weakened by drought, more and more pests such as bark beetles and fungi are spreading at high speed, sometimes decimating entire forests.
